A future where every voice can be heard.
On 29 October 1923, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk imagined a country where the future would belong to its people. Where knowledge, freedom, culture and art could flourish. With the founding of the Republic, he helped open a new chapter in which generations could learn, create, question and express themselves without limits.
He understood that a nation’s voice lives not only in its history, but also in its art. He championed the development of music education and the institutions that would give future generations of artists the opportunity to find their own voices.
A century later, that vision continues to resonate.
Every melody we write, every rhythm we create, every stage we step onto carries a little of that legacy. Artists like Erata are part of a generation that can explore, experiment and make its voice heard because a path was opened long before us. They (Erata and other artists) walk towards the darkness and the unknown, carrying in their hands the torches lit by Atatürk.
Without that beginning, our music might never have found its way into the world.
Today, we celebrate not only the founding of a Republic, but the freedom to imagine, create and be heard.
Happy 29 October Republic Day!
